Police Incident A947 near Turriff

Police Scotland have closed the A947 near Birkenhills while they deal with an incident

The A947 has been closed south of Turriff near Birkenhills while officers from Police Scotland deal with an incident.

It has been reported that the incident is in the field next to the A947 and that there were around 10 police vehicles at the location.

Inspector Mark Young said

We were called around 3.45 pm on Saturday 3 April 2021, to a report of an incident on land next to the A947 near Turriff. Officers are currently at the scene conducting enquiries and the road will remain closed until these are complete. Traffic is currently being diverted onto the B9170 towards Cuminestown.

People are commenting on Social Media that vehicles following the diversion should take care as the roads are very narrow and getting blocked with traffic.

The A947 reopened at around 7:30 am this morning

Detective Inspector John Lumsden, from North East CID, said

Around 3.45pm on Saturday, 3 April, 2021, officers were made aware of an incident within a field off the A947 near Turriff, involving a 21-year-old woman. Police attended and sadly the female was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
