Taxi drivers and drivers of private hire vehicles working in Aberdeenshire can now apply online for a new licence.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Licensing Service is not currently offering face-to-face contact due to changes to working practises as a result of responding to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Advantages of the new system include a quicker and more environmentally friendly process where less paper is used.

To apply you will need to complete an online application form and upload supporting documents depending on which licence you apply for.

If your application is for a driver licence, please complete the online form and upload two passport pictures. If your application is for a vehicle licence or vehicle substitution, please complete the application and upload a copy of your insurance certificate.

Cllr Fergus Hood, Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee, said

In the interests of staff safety we are asking customers to only submit essential paperwork. Our preference is very much to encourage those who need to apply for a licence to do so digitally. It is quicker, environmentally friendly and responsible during Covid-19.

To apply for a licence please visit the Taxi & Private Hire page on the Aberdeenshire Council website.

Renewal licences are not yet available to apply for online. Those taxi and private hire drivers who need to renew will be sent details of the date and time of their test at the fleet services depot appropriate to their area.
