The original plans saw the removal of all the on-street parking on Main St to allow for the pavement to be temporarily widened to allow for social distancing. Members of the Turriff Business Association opposed this, started an online petition and got support from the four ward members Anne Stirling, Sandy Duncan, Iain Taylor & Alistair Forsyth.

A number of online meetings were held between Council Officers, Councillors and members of the Turriff Business Association. A new plan has been drawn up and agreed upon, this plan will be implemented on Monday 6 July.

The new traffic measures will be

20MPH SPEED LIMIT

Balmellie Street from High Street to Rae Street
High Street from Cross Street/Queen Street to Main Street
Main Street from The Square to High Street
Schoolhill from Victoria Terrace to High Street
The Wynd/Manse Road from Cross Street to Main Street

ONE-WAY TRAFFIC SYSTEM

Main Street from The Square to High Street

The footpath on the North of Main St (Celebrations side) will be widened
Cones will be placed along the South side of Main St but on-street parking will remain

Some barriers will also be placed on High St to assist with social distancing but no other restrictions will be in place there.

It was agreed that Turriff Business Association will monitor the town centre to ensure that social distancing is maintained and business association members have started to put signage up around the town reminding visitors about social distancing.
