Spaces for People Turriff

Aberdeenshire Council has published a list of traffic restrictions in Turriff for the Spaces for People program.

Aberdeenshire Council has published a list of traffic restrictions in Turriff for the Spaces for People program.

Spaces for People is a Government-funded program of closures and restrictions which can be put in place to allow for social distancing in retail areas of our towns. With the relaxation of the lockdown restrictions moving into Phase Two, more shops will be opening and there is potential for shoppers to have to wait on footpaths.

Spaces for People is designed to extend the available space for pedestrians, allowing people to pass each other while maintaining the suggested social distancing.

In Turriff this will look like the removal of some on-street parking spaces at various locations, a reduction of speed limits to 20mph on some roads and a one-way system on Main Street and Schoolhill. To facilitate Spaces for People, the following restrictions and traffic orders have been made.

NO WAITING ‘AT ANY TIME’

  • Balmellie Street from High Street to Rae Street
  • High Street from Cross Street/Queen Street to Main Street
  • Main Street from The Square to High Street
  • Schoolhill from Victoria Terrace to High Street

20MPH SPEED LIMIT

  • Balmellie Street from High Street to Rae Street
  • High Street from Cross Street/Queen Street to Main Street
  • Main Street from The Square to High Street
  • Schoolhill from Victoria Terrace to High Street
  • The Wynd/Manse Road from Cross Street to Main Street

ONE-WAY TRAFFIC SYSTEM

  • Main Street from The Square to High Street
  • Schoolhill from Victoria Terrace to High Street

The traffic orders are in place from 3 July 2020 until 3 January 2022.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson told My Turriff

There is no set date for implementing any Spaces for People measures in Turriff. Initial proposals have been drawn up, but will only be implemented if required.

We will be monitoring the measures which are being introduced in other town centres and will, of course, include Turriff in that process. Data gathered will help us to make an informed decision as to whether or not we proceed.
