Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has condemned vandals who targeted the Christmas Lights display in Turriff town centre.

Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has condemned vandals who targeted the Christmas Lights display in Turriff town centre.

The Turriff Christmas Lights Group reported on Friday that lights at the Square were damaged between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

In addition, the lights around the Turra Coo were broken within a week of being put up.

Mr Duguid, who lives in Turriff and regularly attends the Christmas Lights switch-on ceremony with his family, said

This is very disappointing. I cannot understand the motivation of those responsible.

I have huge admiration for those within our community who put so much of their time into projects such as the Christmas Lights – including the annual switch-on event.

But there is also a very small element responsible for selfish and cowardly vandalism like this.

I hope the culprits are tracked down and held to account for their actions.

If you have any information about who may have caused the damage, please report it to Police Scotland via 101 or call in at Turriff Police Station.
