The Turriff Advertiser is under new ownership for the second time in less than six months.

Scottish Provincial Press who purchased the Turriff Advertiser and sister publications the Inverurie Advertiser and Ellon Advertiser on 1 July 2019 went into administration briefly on Tuesday 10 December 2019. SPP owned 18 local newspaper titles across the North East and Highlands and employed 135 staff.

Iliffe Media Group has teamed up with Peter Fowler, the majority shareholder in Scottish Provincial Press, to take over the Inverness-based company which will now trade as Highland News and Media Limited.

Iliffe Media Group is based in Cambridge and owns a number of titles in the Midlands, Kent and east of England.

Peter Fowler said

I am pleased that we have secured the future for the staff and the newspapers.

With an impressive portfolio of iconic and much-loved newspapers, numerous special publications and rapidly growing digital activities, Highland News and Media is in a very strong position to deliver modern news and advertising solutions across the north of Scotland for many years to come.

Edward Iliffe of Iliffe Media Group added

This is the second joint venture arrangement that Iliffe Media Group have entered into with Peter and Rory Fowler, following the acquisition of the Newbury Weekly News earlier this year.

Whilst Highland News and Media will continue to operate with a high degree of autonomy, we will continue recent moves to share expertise where relevant and seek efficiencies that will help secure a profitable future for both organisations.
