The A947 will be closed at around 8 pm on Friday night (6 October) to allow for the road to be realigned for the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route.
The road will be closed from the River Don Bridge to the Fountain Equestrian Centre. It is expected that the road will reopen using the new alignment on Monday 9 October at around 6 am.
Diversion routes will be signposted.
Road users travelling south from north of Oldmeldrum will be diverted from the A947 Aberdeen to Banff Road at Oldmeldrum to the A96 at Inverurie, via the B9170 Inverurie to Oldmeldrum Road, Portstown Link Road, the B9001, Burghmuir Drive and Blackhall Road. They will then be directed east along the A96.
Stagecoach has made amendments to the 35 service route and timetable during the closures.
During this closure service 35 from Elgin will operate as normal to Oldmeldrum then from Oldmeldrum the service will divert via Inverurie to serve Aberdeen. No stops on the diversion route between Oldmeldrum and Aberdeen will be in use on service 35. The same diversion will be in place for journeys leaving Aberdeen for Elgin and we are expecting these journeys to have a knock on delay of 10-15 mins for those travelling from Oldmeldrum to Elgin.
For those travelling to/from Newmachar there is a shuttle in place to connect to service 35 in Oldmeldrum. Connections to service 35 in Oldmeldrum are guaranteed and service 35 will wait for the shuttle (service 935) to arrive in Oldmeldrum before departing for Aberdeen. The Newmachar – Oldmeldrum shuttle timetable is available to download below.
Service 35A journeys will operate as per standard timetable between Union Square and Dyce on Saturdays, these journeys will terminate in Dyce due to the road closure. In addition to this, for those travelling from Dyce there will be a shuttle service in place with guaranteed connections to service 35 in Bucksburn connecting north from Bucksburn.
There is contingency for a further closure of the A947 the following weekend if the scheduled works are not completed this weekend.
The misery for drivers doesn’t end there, a second scheduled weekend closure is planned for the same location on Friday 20 October through to Monday 23 October with a possible fourth closure between Friday 27 and Monday 30 October.
