Alex Salmond dedicates bench at Turriff Cemetery

Former First Minister Alex Salmond MP visited Turriff Cemetery last week to dedicate a bench which had been funded by the Mary Salmond Trust.

During the visit, arranged by Friends of Turriff Cemetery Treasurer, Morag Lightning, Mr Salmond met volunteers and supporters of the friends’ group.

Mr Salmond said that in later life his mother Mary had taken an interest in Genealogy and did most of her research by visiting cemeteries so it was fitting that a bench, in her name, was being installed in Turriff Cemetery.

The Mary Salmond Trust, which is funded by Alex Salmond, awards grants to community and youth organisations in the North East of Scotland and since 2007 the Trust has awarded over £110,000 to almost 300 successful applicants.
