Mike Rawlins Independent candidate for Turriff and District ward

Mike Rawlins has announced that he will be standing as an Independent candidate in Turriff and District ward in the May 4 local elections.

Mike, who is currently chair of Turriff and District Community Council, has lived in Turriff, with his wife, since 2012 and runs a small web development and management company. Before relocating permanently to Turriff, Mike had been a regular visitor to the area since 1999.

Mike’s business background is in transport and logistics where he managed specialised delivery contracts for various different companies across a wide range of industry sectors from pharmaceuticals through to spare parts for service engineers in the heating industry.¬†Mike left the transport industry in 2007 and decided to change direction, setting up a photography business in the West Midlands. In 2009 an opportunity to join a new company, working with communities¬†around the UK helping them to use new technology and web publishing tools to help promote digital inclusion, came along and Mike joined Talk About Local as their Commercial and Technical Manager. Mike left the company in 2014 to run his own company Turriff Web.

Mike is an active volunteer with the RNLI at Macduff Lifeboat Station where he is the Lifeboat Press Officer and Community Safety Officer.

Mike said,

I decided to stand for election to Aberdeenshire Council after being a member of the Turriff and District Community Council. I am proud of the work that the Community Council do dealing with local issues and if I am elected I will be able to use this experience and my skills across a wider area in the Turriff and District Ward.

As an independent councillor I would be able to make decisions based on what I believe is the best for the ward and not what the party leaders tell me to support.

I am the only truly independent candidate on the ballot paper, I have never been a member of any political party or organisation and I can see no reason why I would ever join a political party in the future. Living in the Turriff and District Ward means I have no conflict of interest with any other electoral ward and have a vested interest in ensuring the best outcome for the Turriff and District Ward at all times.
