Fireworks Against Cancer 2016

The annual Fireworks Against Cancer Son et lumière will take place at New Deer Show Ground on Saturday October 22nd.

This years event will be hosted by Buchan Community Radio and Miss Galaxy Grampian will be in attendance to start the event in style.

The event is also supported with fairground rides, food stalls, toy sellers and street entertainment from the Aberdeen Fire Spinners and great music throughout, with a Son et lumière presentation for the fireworks.

The gates to the show ground open at 4:30pm and the fireworks start at 8pm

The groups first event was held in 2014 and again in 2015 and to date has raised over £6,500 for UCAN, the Urological cancer support charity based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This year’s target is £10,000. The event is free entry, with donation collections on the night with a suggested £10 pp donation or as much as visitors can afford to donate. All donations go directly to the charity, with all costs supported by sponsorship.

UCAN was launched by two consultant urological surgeons based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary- Sam McClinton & James N’Dow. They saw a need to raise awareness of urological cancers which affect 1 in 3 men and 1 in 5 women, to make a diagnosis as early as possible and to improve the patient’s experience of care, treatment and after care, which is where the UCAN centre comes into it’s own.

The centre is run by charitable contributions offers patients a secure & comfortable place to first set about dealing with their cancer, a place to go for support and information and to speak to the UCAN dedicated nursing team.

UCAN was instrumental in raising funds to secure the first robotic surgery centre in Scotland, now fully commissioned and working, through several fund raising activities including the Fireworks Against Cancer annual event.

The UCAN support centre was unique in its conception and the model, now being replicated nationwide, is a shining example of how genuine help and support for cancer patients can be achieved through charitable giving.

The event is sponsored by Lovie Quarry & Concrete Products  Masson & Glennie  and in association with Katrina Reid Photography  & East Balthangie Caravan Park  The professional high quality display is again being supported & managed by Fireworx Scotland.
