The Formartine Area Committee approved plans for 450 new homes in Turriff at their meeting on Tuesday.
The development area known as M1 fills the space from the A947 beside Turriff Caravans, bordering the rear of Delgaty Crescent & Ardin Road and down to Balmellie Road. As well as 450 new houses there will be employment areas and a new school.
The committee did say that any development must be supported by the correct infrastructure. The report notes that the Turriff waste water treatment plant is at capacity and would require upgrading to allow for the development to connect to the network. Work at the waste water plant would take around three years to complete.
Councillor Anne Robertson said of the development
At the moment we’ve got a very vibrant town centre and I think we have to be very clear going forward how this development will impact and add to rather than detract from it.
Any applications for development at the site must be sympathetic in size and design to the existing buildings around the site and at least 112 of the new houses must be affordable.
