The second annual Fireworks Against Cancer event held at New Deer Show Ground on Saturday 24th October 2015 was a great success.
Clear skies and dry weather ensured that a great time was had by all.
The visitors, although slightly down on last year’s 3,500 enjoyed a spectacular firework display and were entertained by the Aberdeen Circus Troup with fire eating and juggling displays and by surprise celebrity guest local actor Alec Westwood, star of many TV dramas including Roughnecks the drama series based on the Aberdeen Oil industry. UCAN were represented by Allan Harrow of the UCAN cancer support group, based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Thanks go to the main supporters of the show Masson Glennie, Lovie Quarry Products, East Bathangie Caravan Park, Towns & Carnie and of course Fireworx Scotland.
John Burdon the event organiser said
It was a great night and although we haven’t got the full total collections totalled for UCAN, we’re hopeful it will be similar if not better than last year. We’re grateful for the sponsors financial input this year which again means that again 100% donations go to the UCAN fund. The weather in the morning maybe put some visitors off coming, but it was a fine dry afternoon and evening, just perfect for our firework display.
Thanks to the efforts of my wife Anna, Gavin & Katrina Reid and the numerous volunteers who staged the show, including the Charity bake off ladies and to all the local businesses who contributed to make the evening a successful and memorable one, with special thanks to the New Deer Show Ground team for allowing the event to be held there.
Local actor Alec Westwood famous for many roles including TV appearances in Roughnecks, Holby City and in 2014 the film The Redwood Massacre was the surprise celebrity guest for the evening and did a great job entertaining the crowd as MC for the night.
Next year’s event planning is already under way and John added
The event will be another spectacular, with the addition of more supporting activities and it will againbe held at the end of October 2016. We are looking forward to another great day in support of UCAN.
