There will be a feast for lovers of art and crafts in the week beginning Monday 8th Sept to Sunday 14th Sep when Turriff Town House (former Municipal Hall) will be open to no less than twelve individual artists and craftsmen/women. For the whole week they will be displaying work already completed and some will be demonstrating new material, and the people of Turriff and District will have free admission from 10 in the morning to 4pm, with extra openings on Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm to 9pm.
The artists include several who have obtained considerable praise both in Scotland and beyond its shores. For instance Aberchirder born Fiona Michie is a prize winner and has displayed her works in the States and New Zealand and many other places since 2000. Douglas Heggie, who has majored in seascapes and landscapes has been praised for his texture and colour, has had his works shown at the Royal Scottish Academy. They are joined by Kathryn Sharp from Castleton. Kathryn studied as Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen as a mature student and she is well known in the area for works in a variety of artistic mediums. Diane Hubbard and Linda Muller, from New Byth also join the artists line up.
Not only will there be many artworks being displayed, and for sale, but some of the artist will be demonstrating their skills.
An equally varied group of crafters will be present displaying a huge variety of artefacts for sale such as horn craft, jewellery, wood, hand-made books, unique children’s clothes and cards. Some of the artisans will be known and they include Grant Cooper, Maureen Boyce, Jackie Jordan, Lynn Bellingham, Dorothy McKenzie and Elizabeth Forsyth. In addition Annette Daykin will be giving spinning demonstrations at periods throughout the week.
In addition to the free admission, refreshments, tea and coffee etc will be available. Parking is right on the doorstep and the Turriff bus stops close by..
Everyone is welcome to enjoy what will be an original display and the first of what will hopefully be a regular series of events in Turriff, arranged by the Turriff Town House Association.
