Today [2nd September] is the last day for people to register to vote if they want to vote in the September 18 Independence Referendum.
Voter registration in Scotland has already reached record figures with over 4 million people registered to vote on September 18.
Christian Allard MSP from the SNP said
Time is running out to make sure you have your say in Scotland’s future. I would urge any EU citizens living and working here in Scotland to register to vote today before the deadline.
Johann Lamont MSP, leader of Scottish Labour said
Everyone should take their opportunity to have their say as this decision could have a big impact on all our lives. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and there will be no going back if we get it wrong.
The Electoral Commission have tweeted
Deadline to register to vote at #indyref is midnight. Any new applications to register will need to be hand-delivered to local authority

Don’t get confused by the dates
- 2 September is the last day to register to vote in the referendum.
- 3 September is the last day to register for a postal vote in the referendum, but only if you are already registered to vote.
