Aberdeenshire Council have agreed to obtaining a Compulsory Purchase Order from the Scottish Government for the land needed for the new Markethill Primary School.
The land to the north of Meadowbank Road at the top of Market Street has been earmarked for the new 500 pupil school which is due to open in 2017.
Plans for the new school were passed by the Formartine Area Committee in 2011.
A spokesperson for Aberdeenshire Council said
Negotiations have been ongoing with the landowner and are continuing. A Compulsory Purchase Order, to mimimise potential delays, was approved by the council in September.
Members of the public have 4 weeks to view the order at Towie House in Turriff or council offices in Ellon, and to raise any objections or make any comments. The order could be approved by Scottish Government Ministers early in the new year.
