Aberdeenshire Council have launched a funding scheme to help communities celebrate the best of the local culture in their area.
The Our Place fund is part of Aberdeenshire Council’s Be Part of the Picture creative placemaking project which is working with local businesses and communities to promote the best of Aberdeenshire.
Community groups and organisations across Aberdeenshire can apply for up to £5,000 towards projects aimed at celebrating the best of their local area, which could include key local figures, an iconic landmark, the natural environment, local produce, heritage or language.
The money is available for:
- Projects which celebrate a key aspect of a community’s history or heritage
- Creation of an artwork or creative product inspired by local surroundings
- Development of a community brand to be used in local projects or products
- Extending an existing community event – e.g. a local festival, gala or highlight games – to showcase local creative talent
The Our Place fund offers direct support to local residents and organisations who want to celebrate the best of local culture and creativity and build a feeling of community pride.
Director of Education, Learning & Leisure, Maria Walker, said
Aberdeenshire is rich in cultural, historical and natural heritage and this is a fantastic opportunity for our communities to showcase the best of their local area.
We want to support our communities to show their pride in Aberdeenshire and make the most of the local assets which make them unique.
Be Part of the Picture is about celebrating the strengths of Aberdeenshire and showcasing the region as a place of beauty, quality and innovation.
The programme will use cultural and economic development projects to engage with local people and boost the sense of pride in Aberdeenshire’s communities.
Director of Infrastructure Services, Stephen Archer, said
This fund is part of a wider effort to boost community pride and attract visitors to the different corner of Aberdeenshire.
Supporting the creative industries and heritage of Aberdeenshire will in turn encourage greater economic prosperity for our communities.
Our Place applications will be assessed by a panel of council officers and community representatives and decisions will be made within four weeks.
Community groups that are interested in applying to the fund are asked to visit the project website to download an application form and to find further information www.bepartofthepicture.com. Alternatively, if you have any questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
