Aberdeenshire Council has announced that Turriff will benefit from a £100,000 investment to enhance the town as a shopping destination and provide support to local businesses. The Turriff Retail Improvement Scheme funding of £100,000, available as part of the Investing in Our Towns and Villages programme, will go towards ensuring Turriff remains a popular and attractive destination for shoppers and visitors.
A part time co-ordinators role will be funded as part of the scheme, the co-ordinator will work with local businesses and groups to deliver an enhanced programme of events and activities in the town centre. This will support initiatives to deliver the highest standards of customer service and help make the most of what the town has to offer.
Robert Stephen Chair of the Turriff Business Association said
This funding will enable Turriff town centre and the businesses here to attract more visitors and shoppers to the town and keep the town centre alive and thriving.
Town centres are finding it hard in the current economic climate, so this project will give Turriff a real boost and will ensure that visitors to the town centre have an enjoyable experience. We are grateful for the support of Aberdeenshire Council and look forward to a very positive working relationship as the project develops.
The £100,000 investment will also be used to provide grant support to encourage private investment in retail premises in the town centre, aimed at improving the customer experience and also to carry out minor works to enhance the appearance and quality of the town centre.
Chair of Formartine Area Committee, Councillor Rob Merson, said
This is a great opportunity for Turriff to build upon the work that the Turriff Business Association, its individual members, and other groups do in promoting Turriff as a vibrant town centre and place to visit.
A meeting for all town centre businesses discuss the project will be held on Tuesday 5 February at 7pm at Celebrations of Turriff on Main Street. All town centre businesses are invited to attend the meeting to discuss the Retail Improvement Scheme, and how applications might be made.
The funding for the Turriff Retail Improvement Scheme was secured from the council’s 2012/13 underspend, which saw £3 million allocated to invest in towns and villages across Aberdeenshire.
