Turriff United met Greenock Morton in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup at The Haughs this afternoon.
Morton dominated the first half with a dozen or so shots on target compared to a brace for Turriff. The flow of the game changed after 30 minutes with Turriff gaining some possession. This built up with Lewis Davidson linking up with Mark Simpson who scored from inside the box at 40 minutes. Turriff United’s lead was short lived with Peter Weatherson equalising for Morton in the second minute of added time.
The teams came out after the break to start the second half with a heavy sky and the threat of snow.
Morton came out attacking with Stephen Coutts having to make a number of saves in the first 15 minutes. Robbie Henderson was replaced by Nicolas Gray just after the hour.
Cammy Bowden took a shot at goal from a Lewis Davidson corner, only to have it saved by Morton’s Gaston, who hadn’t had a lot to do during the game this far. As the second half came up to the 30 minutes mark, Morton’s goal scoring Weatherson picked up a yellow card and was substituted for Lewis Hawke.
Gary Davidson picked up a yellow card for challenge on Leis Hawke with 12 minutes to go. Stephen Gauld was substituted for James Chalmers with 8 minutes to go as the snow started to fall over Turriff.
Lewis Davidson was unlucky to have his shot on goal stopped by Gatson.
Both teams went down to 10 men in the final minutes of the game with Cammy Bowden & Craig Reid being dismissed by referee Mr Hilland for violent conduct. Turriff swapped Paul Campbell for Gary Harris, while Morton replaced Fouad Bachirou for Mark McLaughlin.
4 minutes of time added saw only one credible attack on goal with Martin Hardie picking up a cross from Scott Taggart only to be saved by Turriff’s Coutts.
Turriff United will travel to Cappielow Park on Tuesday 11 December for the replay.
