All Aberdeenshire Schools To Close On 30 November

Published by Turra Coo

Aberdeenshire Council will close all its schools to pupils if the nationwide strike action takes place on 30th November 2011.

The decision has been taken in order to give parents adequate time to put in place alternative arrangements for child care.

Wherever possible, schools will be open for teachers and support staff not taking industrial action. Staff should check the Aberdeenshire Council website for updates which will be promoted through the school snow closure system and turn up for work as usual, or attend their nearest open school.

Community and voluntary groups who have bookings at schools or any community facilities on 30th November are advised to expect disruption and to consider making alternative plans.

Chief Executive Colin Mackenzie said

We apologise for the disruption and do not take the decision to shut our schools lightly. However, our highest priority is for the safety of children and with such widespread disruption expected, it is better to give parents time to make alternative arrangements for the day.

Community and voluntary groups who have bookings in schools whose facilities management is not provided by Aberdeenshire Council should have those honoured, but in common with other schools in Aberdeenshire they will be closed to pupils.
