After the news yesterday from Cllr Anne Robertson that the public toilets at The Haughs would be reopening, we’ve received a press release from Aberdeenshire SNP about the toilets.
Cllr Duncan was at the meeting of the Formartine Area Committee when they had sight of the Public Convenience Strategy that detailed the proposed closure of the Haughs public toilets.

TURRIFF CLLRS IN TALKS ON HAUGHS TOILETS RE-OPENING
Turriff councillor Sandy Duncan has said the public toilets at The Haughs will re-open for the summer season after all.
The SNP councillor accompanied Ward colleague Cllr Anne Robertson at a meeting with senior council officials at Aberdeenshire Council, for discussions on securing the re-opening of the facilities.
Commenting after the meeting, Cllr Sandy Duncan said:
“I’m very pleased to report that an approach has been agreed which enables the toilets to be opened for this season, and which recognises the unforeseen circumstances which unfortunately meant that the full local context was not reflected when the views of the Formartine Area Committee were being sought on this.
“The decision to close the toilets and for the Council to no longer run the facility still stands, but in light of the community interest the council will not now apply the decision until the end of this season.
“That allows good time for more discussion at a local level to determine if there is a community based way forward that could emerge. That would be a common sense approach in these exceptional circumstances and is again consistent with the original decision which was to also encourage local communities to manage facilities.
“Arrangements are being made for the toilets to open, once they have been cleaned, with immediate effect and I expect that to be by the end of this week.”
